We offer a straightforward process for opener installation. We keep almost all models in stock on our trucks, so we can often complete installation the same day we provide the estimate. Our installation process follows these steps:

Free estimates: We’ll provide a free estimate for your new opener and installation, so you know the cost before any work begins.

32-point inspection: Our team will complete a 32-point inspection to ensure that your garage door size, weight, balance and track condition are all appropriate.

Consultation: We’ll discuss the features you need and confirm that the model you choose is compatible with your garage door system.

Installation: Once you’ve approved the estimate and confirmed your model choice, we can install your garage door opener.

Programming remotes: After the installation is finished, we will program remotes and help you install and set up the myQ^®app to control your garage door from your phone.

Wall-mount openers mount beside the door rather than overhead, maximizing ceiling clearance, great for garages with high lifts or limited overhead space. Ingstrup installs all three types from LiftMaster.

Most residential single-car doors work well with a 1/2 HP opener. A 3/4 HP or 1 HP model is better suited for heavier double doors, wood doors, or high-use households. For commercial and industrial applications, we size the operator to the door’s weight and cycle requirements. Our team will assess your specific door during the installation consultation and recommend the right horsepower for your needs.

Yes, many current LiftMaster openers include built-in Wi-Fi and connect to the myQ app, allowing you to open, close, and monitor your garage door from anywhere using your smartphone. You’ll also receive real-time alerts if the door is left open. Battery backup models continue to operate during power outages, and rolling code technology generates a new access code with every use to prevent unauthorized entry.

A standard residential garage door opener installation typically takes 2-3 hours. This includes mounting the rail and motor unit, connecting the trolley and safety sensors, programming remotes and the wall button, and testing the auto-reverse safety feature. If we’re also installing a new door on the same visit, we coordinate both to minimize your total time.

In most cases, yes. As long as your existing door is structurally sound and properly balanced, we can add a new opener without replacing the door. If your springs are worn or the door is imbalanced, we’ll recommend addressing those issues first. An opener should never be expected to compensate for a door that doesn’t operate correctly on its own.

Battery backup is especially valuable in Michigan, where power outages from ice storms and severe weather are common. Without backup power, a standard opener won’t function during an outage, leaving you unable to access your car or leaving your garage unsecured. LiftMaster battery backup models allow up to 20 cycles of operation after power loss. Ingstrup recommends battery backup for any attached garage.
